The Beautiful Game

Just to round-off the weekend so far, what a great start to the Football League play-offs: in 2004, Hull City drew 1-1 with Harriers at Aggborough, and in 2008 win at Wembley in front of 86,000 to win promotion to the Premiership.

Anyone who knows me will know that this isn’t me jumping on a bandwagon and that I’ve had a soft-spot for the Tigers for several years, and this really is a fantastic achievement. Dean Windass and Nicky Barmby have been absolutely perfect professionals and, even at 40, Windass will cause a few problems in the Prem next year.

I don’t believe for a single second that they’ll do a Derby. I won’t say for certain but I wouldn’t even expect them to even be relegated, they’ve already got fantastic financial and fan backing and the £60 Million earned today won’t hurt, either.

Rather than doing a Derby I see them doing a Sunderland - not about to win the Premiership but never looking likely to face the drop. Here’s hoping, anyway. Well done to all concerned.

Welcome Home (?)

I’ve never really been a huge fan of boxing - not that I dislike it, I’ve just never really taken to it too much - but I just can’t help but like Ricky Hatton.

Having heard from so many, many people who know him and his family, it seems few have a bad word to say about him. He seems a down-to-earth, regular kind of guy which is probably why he has such an army of fans.

Watched his latest fight on Sky Box Office on Saturday night, and what an occasion. 55,000 fans in his beloved Manchester at the home of his beloved Manchester City, and a thoroughly deserved victory. One has to wonder what it means in the long run, though.

Certainly he was the clear winner here but it was a comeback fight after all, and the specially-selected opponent not only virtually came out of retirement to take the bout, but showed him a few scary moments, too.

A great watch, and very enjoyable — I’d enjoy the payday, though, I don’t see him getting his Mayweather re-match too soon….

9 Years

Quite a bit to get through tonight, it’s been a hectic period as of late!

First one is a difficult one for me - Hard to believe that it has now been nine years since Owen Hart was tragically killed in an accident at a WWE Pay Per View.

WWE returned to the scene in Kansas City recently for a Raw TV broadcast, and ‘Owen’ chants were still strong.

Never forgotten!

Wembley Way Again

Posted by Matt on May 12, 2008 | Share It

Enjoyed a fantastic day out at Wembley once again on Saturday for the FA Carlsberg Trophy Final.

Not quite sure why I went… I was sort of offered the chance on Thursday, and by Saturday at 9:00am I was on the train and on my way to Wembley Way, again. Or Olympic Way, if you like.

Naturally this year’s final wasn’t a patch on last year’s - and that’s me talking after being a beaten man last year!

Still a really good day, though. Great weather, still a breathtaking stadium and some fantastic fans, namely those wearing yellow.

I Do Get About

Posted by Matt on May 12, 2008 | Share It

I’ve been doing a bit of housekeeping again, seeing as though we’re approaching My Perspectiva’s Third Birthday later in the month.

The archives have been cleaned up a bit and don’t take up as much space down the side there, so do take a stroll through them should you ever be bored - there’s been some good stuff on here since 2006 you know!

Meanwhile I’ve changed around some of the content - the Links have gone, for instance, whereas I’ve now added my Portfolio; so you can see what I get up to and where.

Also, to add to my extensive list of online ventures, I’ve signed up for a blog of sorts with WWE’s Fan Nation. So any WWE fans out there, check that out for my opinions on what’s what in the industry.
