Classy Wanker!

I have to admit it, Ronaldo really is a class act. I think he’s a sneakly little sod and I wouldn’t trust him to watch my dinner for me, but he just can’t seem to stop scoring. Got another two against Portsmouth tonight and both were fantasic - his scoring exploits for a midfield player are just atsonishing. Granted, United seem to lack a spark without him but with the likes of Tevez and Rooney, the depth is good.

Tonight pretty much made it certain that the race for the Premiership is down to just three teams, though I guess we already knew that a while ago. Liverpool are my ‘Prem’ team, of course, but my soft spot for Chelsea has been there for a few years now and I can’t help but still want them to win it, they’re just there getting result after result in the face of ManYoo and Arsenal’s dominance and I love a bit of that.

Liverpool are down to seventh and, my loyalties aside, I can’t say I’m too sad. Rafa is a Champions’ League only man and he still doesn’t seem to realise that the league season is 34 games long and THAT is his job. The sooner that stops being the case the better, in my view.

RIP Jeremy Beadle

Posted by Matt on January 30, 2008 | Share It

Really shocked to hear this one - at just 59, Jeremy Beadle is dead!

Not quite sure why I’m sad, really. And I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, I’m not glad he’s dead, either.

I guess it’s a case that he was one of those British establishments, you know? A bit like Ronnie Barker.

An awful shame this one, RIP Beadle.

Super Sunday

Posted by Matt on January 20, 2008 | Share It

Wow it’s all about football on here lately isn’t it?

Been a good weekend, though. Great win for us on Saturday and the Premiership’s big boys all got pushed - I thought Reading battered ManYoo for the most part and Chelsea certainly shouldn’t have won at Birmingham. Them’s the marks of champions, I suppose?

As usual, spent Sunday analysing football; it’s what I do. Been through Wigan 1-2 Everton, Man City 1-1 West Ham, Athletico 0-2 Real [so far] already, and nothing yet has really set my pulse racing.

Exeter against Oxford is just kicking-off. Come on Oxford, we could do without Exeter getting the points!

Havant to Anfield…

Posted by Matt on January 16, 2008 | Share It

So, Kev is back at the Toon, what a cracking story - great to have an English manager with a bit of passion back in the Premiership.

Anyway, the one thing I wanted to talk about was Havant & Waterlooville’s thrashing of Swansea tonight. Now, in my job I’ve been around and subject to a lot of bias at various times, but I have NEVER heard anything more one-sided than the BBC Wales commentary of the game tonight. They gave absolutely no credit whatsoever to Havant - it was astonishing.

One arrogant ex-player said at half time when HAW were 3-1 up: “If Swansea score again first, even at this stage I can see them going on to win quite comfortably.”

WELL, SON. Guess what. They did score next. And they didn’t win comfortably, did they? No. They didn’t even win, did they? No. They lost. And lost comfortably. Oh the irony. Swansea wasted chance after chance and Havant put theirs away - they deserve to be going to Liverpool in the next round and I hope they do well. Word is that they will make up to £1 Million in this game, and that is absolutely fantastic.

I’ve always had a bit of soft spot for Roberto Martinez and Swansea, and that hasn’t changed - but I hope tonight’s commentary team are suitably ashamed and embarrassed.
